Why X hides the download
X streams videos inside its own player and offers no Save button, so a clip you want — a highlight, a news moment, a funny reply — stays locked in the feed. Screen recording gives you a low-quality, cropped copy with app chrome baked in. Pulling the source MP4 instead gives you the full-resolution video with clean edges, ready to keep or re-share.
Step by step: download an X video
1) Open the post, tap Share and choose Copy link (works for both twitter.com and x.com URLs). 2) Paste that link into the downloader below. 3) Choose MP4 and download. It resolves the best quality X serves and saves the clip directly to your device — no login, no app, and nothing added to the footage.
GIFs, quotes and threads
X 'GIFs' are actually short muted MP4s, so they download as video files you can loop or convert. For a quote-tweet that embeds someone else's clip, copy the link of the original post to get the cleanest source. If you only need the audio from a video, convert it to MP3 instead of saving the full MP4.
Stay on the right side of the rules
Downloading works for public posts; protected accounts and content you don't have permission to reuse are off-limits. Only save videos you have the right to reuse, credit the original poster, and respect X's terms of service.
